Wheelin with CF was created to spread awareness for Cystic Fibrosis throughout the offroad community and the active lifestyle community.
Diagnosed officially with Cystic Fibrosis at two years old, I suffered from a lot of lung problems and scarring since birth. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease you are born with that affects the lungs and every other organ in the body. Growing up with it, doctors told me I would not make it past 12 years old. Making past the doctors expectations time after time I began seeing how living your best life is so important. I finally got to the point where my lungs were so damaged and unable to work on their own well enough to live a normal life that I needed a double lung transplant. In 2015 I received my first double lung transplant. Now, this isn't a cure but a way to buy more time to live my life. After that transplant, I started Wheelin with CF to raise awareness for CF. I used my hobby of offroading to spread that awareness and my knowledge to others. I have met many people and families affected by CF through the offroad community. 3 1/2 years later, in 2018, my lungs started rejecting and I had to have a "redo" transplant. Since transplant is not a cure there are many things, like chronic rejection, that I have to worry about. Unfortunately that transplant was not as successful as the first and i began going to into chronic rejection a few months after recovering from the surgery. January 1, 2020 I received another, but rare, THIRD double lung transplant.
When I was a kid I was very closed off with other people about my disease and had no outlet or people to share my stories or experiences with. I was even sometimes embarrassed for having CF because no one knew what I was talking about or going through. I want people especially kids, with CF to know that it is something that makes you a warrior. That they are not alone in this fight and there are people out there going through what they are too. We want them to live their life to the fullest!
